Unlike horses, the zebra’s closest relative, zebras are too wild to domesticate — though many foolhardy humans have tried. The zebra is thought to have developed its characteristic stripes for camouflage in tall African grasslands. Each zebra’s set of stripes is completely unique — just like a fingerprint, or an Ématelier timepiece. Here, the zebra peeks out from a vivid composition of greenery and flowers wrought in cloisonné enamel.

Based in Toronto, Canada, Ématelier is a brand that specializes in mechanical watches with handcrafted enamel dials. As many of you might know, mechanical watches with handmade enamel dials are extremely pricey. It is Ématelier’s goal to make such watches more accessible. Following on the release of their first collection, the Harmony collection, Ématelier has just introduced its second collection called the Ématelier Kingdom, which features animal motifs on the dial.
